Refuge On The River

Recent mutual frigidness conditions has iced over almost of the ponds too lakes along the Colorado Front Range too the South Platte River has larn a magnet for wintering waterfowl, specially through the night.  The moving H2O is relatively warm too sandbars offering protection from trick too coyotes.

Early this morning, huge flocks of Canada geese too smaller groups of cackling geese clogged the stream, joined past times a host of wintering ducks; mallards dominated the latter grouping simply gadwalls, greater too lesser scaup, buffleheads, mutual goldeneyes, ring-necked ducks too mutual too hooded mergansers were besides present.  Influenza A virus subtype H5N1 stoic slap-up bluish heron stalked the shallows spell a bald eagle surveyed the scene from a cottonwood, no dubiousness watching for whatever sign of injury alongside the congregants.
